Perspective

How many of you that are First Responders have gone home after work and gave your family a big hug? Even if it was at 4am? I can't imagine another profession that gives a better perspective on our lives and reminds us how lucky we are.

When we see a young man die in front of us because of a traumatic accident or a group of kids killed by drunk driving we think of their families. They don't yet know the horrible news that will change their lives forever. For me I think it could just as easily happen to someone I know.

I think these experiences are a gift for all First Responders. Who else gets an opportunity to truly put their lives in perspective. Most of the time this only happens on people's death beds but for us we can be there at that moment and still have the opportunity to apply the experience to our own lives.

Hug your kids, wives, husbands, boyfriends and girlfriends. All the problems in the world don't matter when your life is suddenly taken from you. Remember how lucky we are.
